The word 'blog' is formed from the words “Web log”- a log of entries on the web. A blog is a type of website or part of a website maintained by a person (or a small group of people) with regular entries of commentary, description of events, or other material such as articles, videos, or links to other websites. Entries, called posts, are normally displayed in reverse-chronological order. A person who maintains a blog or posts entries is called a “blogger”. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Most blogs are interactive, allowing people to leave comments and/or message one another. It is this interaction that distinguishes blogs from other websites.
This year our class will maintain a blog where we can post our ideas, events, interests, articles, digital media, and other content. We will discuss how we will use our blog to help us learn how to communicate our ideas more effectively. The grammar concepts we learn will give us the tools to be concise and creative in our communication. We will hold one another accountable for being intelligent and respectful communicators through blogging. I am excited about the interesting conversations and the new things we will learn throughout the year!
